So Pookie-butt helped me put together her new Ikea dresser. It's pink in all of its three-drawer tracked goodness, and damn did she put in a lot of work for it. She followed the directions, got the screws/whatever else from the bag, counted them, and also did much of the screwdriver work. And on several of the bolts, not all of them, but a number of them, she tightened them all the way- I couldn't do any better. From the start to finish she was right there helping and she was really into it. That made me so proud of her and so happy to be there for that.

I am at work early, because the pooky is sick at home, and [livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar is home with her. The poor girl is just extra congested and not feeling well. The kicker was that when we were shopping yesterday she wanted me to carry her and she fell asleep on my shoulder. That hasn't happened in... forever. I hope she gets to feeling better today.

What sucks is that I have a little bit of the same thing. Some sinus pressure, congested, little sore spot in my throat. This is the wrong week to get sick, bucko. I'm taking daytime gelcaps, hopefully that and a boat load of fluids will, as Benny Hill said, cut short its visit.

Yesterday was busy. Church was good, finally working on the Ellingboe Requiem during Sunday morning choir practice (haven't been able to make it to Thursday evening practices for a long time), and since we're performing it in two weeks it's nice to start reading it. When I came home it was spring cleaning! Lots of laundry, fridge and freezer cleanout, and bedroom fixin'-uppin'. Our bedroom, thanks to my wonderful wife, looks clean and great now. So does the kitchen. It looks and feels really nice.

[livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar, when you read this, know that I love you and can't wait to see you this afternoon. Kiss the punkin on the head for me. Hope you both have a good day.

I'm still sore from fighter practice yesterday. Don didn't make it, so I had to borrow armor from Thomas (foget his last name...) who was most helpful and gracious. The helm fit quite well, though it was the way the gauntlets bit into my left forearm that displeased me. I got whacked on good by Byron of Haverford (Char), who worked some drills with me. I'm still not landing most of my shots, but I haven't fought in about six months. Eh. It was fun, though, and that's what counts.

Today we took of for the in-laws, where the in-laws are actually out-of-town, save for the kids. So it was the three of us, Brooke and Brian, and the three girls, swimming and eating. Lots of fun. [livejournal.com profile] lstrobel had a blast in and around the pool. I'm really enjoying hanging with Brian, and the girls enjoyed seeing us (read: Lake) too.

When I looked outside after we got home, it's like the canopy of trees was alight with blinking Christmas lights: the fireflies are everywhere, and it's giving a magic glow to our yard. Wow.

Our dryer is now operational. Woo-hoo! No more laundromat! Boy, we have a phone line that works, a dryer that works, what's with all this functional stuff? (don't answer that!!)

Also in the news, I'm in the middle of a two-hour delay caused by the snow. Blissful silence at work!

And it works too!! So that number we gave you? Last month? Yeah, that one. It works. Now, even. So, give it a try! Don't have it? Let us know!

No phone home. )

Staying home today cuz la munchkina had a fever yesterday and she's all snurfly and schtuffy. Otherwise, she's really feeling ok. Currently she's tooling around her Ikea castle and tunnel that [livejournal.com profile] sk4p bought her for her birthday. And she loves it. ...well, until I take away the plastic rod that she was using to bang on the wall and other things. Now she's throwing a fit. Tough to be a toddler.

So, the other challenge of today will be to call MCI and get real honest-to-goodness phone service to our house after getting the old Verizon line disconnected after almost a month of living here. Seems the owners never cut off phone service. Jeesh. Anyway, the challenge is made more, well, challenging due to the fact that cell phone reception here sucks. So, if this can happen, then we just might have a real phone that can dial real long distance today!

Kid wants on the lap- gonnna wrap this up.

The Good:
  • Hainging out with Tim, our choir director, and his 8 month old daughter Emily at Monroeville with [livejournal.com profile] lstrobel, watching the two of them have fun, and chatting for the first time in a long time.

  • Writing the lyrics for a men's acapella piece to be played Palm Sunday during church this past Sunday and having Tim say, "That's pretty much exactly what I wanted to be expressed." On my first draft.

  • Getting painting and spackling done last night at the new house.

  • Hearing the "Daddy, daddy!" song in my back seat this morning taking [livejournal.com profile] lstrobel to day care.

  • The Bad:
  • Having every school district in Allegheny County except Wilkinsburg on a 2-hour delay because it is 2 frickin' degrees outside.

  • Forgetting to give my sweetie the key to the house (old house) which she'll need to get in this afternoon. (will do during lunch)

  • Feh. It's not that bad, I guess. Gotta get my room ready.

    It's ours!! It's ours!! Waa-ha-haaaa!!!

    *AHEM*

As I was saying, we successfully closed on our house in Allison Park today, despite the numbnut FHA assessor, who has five too many letters in her occupation. The owner clearly was going to be miss the house, but we were told, "If anyone's going to buy it, I want it to be them." We also unexpectedly recieved a lovely congratultions card from our agent, and a gift card for Home Depot! Woo-hoo! She's been so good to us, despite random flakiness here and there. She wants us to keep in touch and warns of unexpected drop-ins to see how we're doing. :-)

In fact, as we speak my sweetie is over at the new house with cleaning supplies. And I bet she's squeeing. Right now. She won't admit it, but she squeed. Just ask [livejournal.com profile] rani23. Squeed, I tell you.

Oh, and sweetest friend EVAR goes to [livejournal.com profile] ommkarja today for the card we recieved at the new house today, before we closed, offering us the warmest wishes and congratulations. Sara, you rock. We're putting that card up in the house once we find a place for it, because it's the first piece of mail we've recieved there. We miss you bunches and bunches.

Oh, and, We have a new house!!!

    Happy frickin' New Year!!

May the year be productive and wonderful for everyone reading this. Of course, lots of people are going to have lots of hard times, but the wish is there all the same.

Posts I have to make this month:
    --Moving into the new house
    --Texans have awesome season
    And, most striking to me:
--It'll be 10 years since [livejournal.com profile] sk4p and I had our apartment-warming party at 2010 Wendover St.

That's right, ladies 'n gents, 10 years. Some of y'all were there. And, check this out, Shawn and I will once again share a residence, just not at the same time, as he moves into our abode next month after we move out. Coincidence?? Yeah, right. It's been 10 years, I tell you. A decade. Because of the moves, a party to celebrate this anniversary probably won't happen this month, but the occaision will be marked, I tell you, somehow, by one of us. Just you wait. And we'll see if we can get Anu into our kitchen again.
