raystrobel47: (Tx flag)
I love my wife. She'd convinced me to open my birthday present early this evening, and since I was husband/daddy-napped to a surprise dinner at Sonic I thought 'sure!'. Well, she managed to get me another Texas flag. The one I've had since I was in high school, that's been hung on the wall in my dorm rooms and bachelor apartments, had been flying proudly on our flagpole for the last three years or so, also thanks to my sweetheart. Well, the time had taken its toll, and it was faded and tattered.

So I got a new one! Not just any new Texas flag, but one that's been flown at the capitol building in Austin! And that's not all!! According to the certificate, which itself is neat, this new flag was flown on March 2, which is Texas' Independence Day, y'all. How. Frickin'. Cool.

Cool enough that this flag ain't flyin' on no flagpole, nowhere, nohow. I'll get a synthetic durable flag for that purpose. This one's getting framed and displayed. :-) I love my wife.

Oh, and I would be most remiss in dismissing the beautiful card my daughter drew for me, all in purple. It was beautiful and sweet, and her name is with [livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar's on the certificate, making it even more special.

...scuse me...

I had a wonderful birthday celebration. After a day yesterday with just me and Pookie, today was awash with people and fun and OH MY GOD FOOD!

Really, I wasn't thinking of having any major bruhaha or anything, I just wanted friends over. But what I got was more than just friends over. My lovely, wonderful, and talented wife cooked her ass off- she made fried chicken (in the oven), this roast that had a beautimus marinade out on the grill (dude, it had cumin, it *had* to be yummy), Hungarian rice (it involves bacon grease. no more needs be said.)(ok, I lied, green pepper and onion too), homemade bread, and chocolate cake. Now, when I say chocolate cake, y'all may think "Oh, how nice, many people love chocolate cake." No. This chocolate cake, double chocolate to be exact, was a two-layer covered with a combination of strawberries, vanilla, almond?, and thickener, all blended with a hand-mixer, and poured over each layer. The icing was really a ganache that Jenn got from Alton Brown's recipe that begins with 2 sticks of butter, dark chocolate, and heavy cream. Since the strawberry concoction turned a bit of the cake into pudding practically, it was the ganache that quite literally held the cake together. And it was ... was... oh, it was horrible. Yah. That's it. Horrible. You surely didn't miss anything. Nope. Not a thing.

This year's celebration was especially cool because of folx like [livejournal.com profile] aengus1385 and others from up Butler way, and their kids. They got along swimmingly with Pookie, who obviously had a blast. J. brought fantastic beer- Dogfish Head's Indian Brown Ale. Day-um, but this was yummy; it was dark, nutty, and smooth. I thoroughly approved. Oh, he brought homemade mead too, which was equally yummy and enjoyed by many. I got to share my Brooklyn Chocolate Stout, which many liked, so it was nice to see the beer flow. It happens so rarely at our house.

[livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin brought games (duh) and he introduced Dominion to our Butler friends, while I was in a round of Ticket To Ride. I gave two Cut Once CDs away to said Butler friends, who I think may have been surprised to know I was in a band. The laughs were many, the food was plentiful, I even got a couple of cards and gifties (thank you again), and I wouldn't've changed a thing. I know some were not able to make it, but the circumstances were completely understandable. So after all was packed up, I'm full, happy, and my sweetie outdid herself and cleaned the kitchen and dishes and prepared my lunch for tomorrow!!! Saint this woman, please.

It's a shame that I have to get up to go to work tomorrow, but this was a damn fine night. My friends rock, and my wife rocks even harder. Sweetie, you're the best. Thank you.

1. The school year is down to 10 calendar days/8 weekdays/4 days where kids are actually gonna show up! Yay!
2. [livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar's all day presentation today went super-duper well, despite her having a sore throat! Double-yay!!
3. I will be receiving mp3s of "Dans Profundo", as well as the good version of "People Rejoice" and "I Seek Your Face" in the near future! Triple-yay!!!!

I admit to being a selfish artist and being most excited about #2, but the thought of getting those tracks on mp3, and then being able to burn a CD with *several* (though not all) of my recent works, plus capability of mass-burning (sounds religious, no?) 4 CDs at a time on my colleague's machine, is making me more giddy than I think I ought to be. But what the hey.

My wife is the. best. cook. I love that woman.

Tonight it was Mexican Molé chili, which included dutch processed cocoa and a bottle of fine Indian Pale Ale. Then she whupped up some corn bread. Ye gods, that was fine.

I am a lucky man.
raystrobel47: (Driving)
I finally uploaded pictures from August, when [livejournal.com profile] lordandrei, [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy, [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman, and [livejournal.com profile] elocinnuala came for a visit. Please for the clicky go --here--. I am afraid that sideways pictures are still sideways, and I can't fix that. Hmmpf.
raystrobel47: (Passion)
She just bought me a virtual yellow rose. It's in my profile. Thank you, sweetie!!!

I just got off the phone with my wife- She's in Sommerset, PA, still about an hour away from Pgh. after going to the BPAL Will Call in Hershey. She's doing just fine, just delayed more than she wants for reasons beyond her control. She had a great time, and I'm still waiting to hear the stories.

Happy birthday, JENN!

You are my favorite person.

You are a beautiful woman,
a fabulous cook,
a tremendous listener,
talented and driven in many things,
sometimes acting like a frat boy or a 10 year old, take your pick,
you're frickin' hilarious,
adorable,
and most of all,
you are my best friend.

And I love you.

Happy birthday, sweetie.
raystrobel47: (Conch shell)

Happy Anniversary!!!

It's our third. For real. Even if we don't think it is. ;-)

I love you so much, and can't wait to see you this afternoon.
raystrobel47: (Default)

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar!! I'm so glad you're home!!!

raystrobel47: (Shame)
Let's see, ingredients for the perfect morning:
-Wake up late.
-Ergo, leave late.
-Oooh, flat tire in Garfield. Sign me up.
-Return of the siunus headache! *cue music*

Yeah, I got the trifecta for die morgen-de-la-crappo today, but it was mitigated by the following:
-[livejournal.com profile] lstrobel is f**king adorable.
-My wonderful wife bailed me out and picked up die pookster to get her to day care. So I got to see her, too. And a smooch. :-)
-AAA is your friend.
-Chocolate doughnut at work.

So, coulda been worse, and it wasn't, so I just keep on a-goin'. I have so much to accomplish this week it isn't funny, and I'll be happy to see Friday very soon. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a class to teach in... 2 minutes.
raystrobel47: (Texas)
So, we're watching Ron White, the comedian (Blue Collar Comedy Tour), when he says "insurance." Now, me bein' from Texas and he bein' from Texas, we happen to speak the same ...dialect. We often say /IN-shur-uns/ rather than /in-SHUR-uns/. And it makes [livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar's teeth itch. In fact, she was going on about this in the kitchen. And, thoughtfully, I provide the transcript, which I dare say tickled me:

[livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar:*grumble*mumble*gripe* ...there's not a stress in that part of the word!!...
[livejournal.com profile] lrstrobel:No, -snicker- it's in my wife!! *giggle*giggle*
[livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar:glares at me
[livejournal.com profile] lrstrobel:(laughs into the dining room)
[livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar:Is it that you stay up late trying to think of ways to not to get laid again?

I know I got in one more good jab, because Jenn really glared at me and I just said, "Hey, you trained me!"
raystrobel47: (Music)
...and I'm plain-ol' beat. Just put our newly 2-year-old to bed and fed myself something that wasn't pizza. Who knows, I might splurge and have a salad. Orrrr, just go for the ice cream. News at eleven.

On the music front- It's done! I got it done!! I finished "I Seek Your Face" at the end of the school day today, and plan on copying it in ink tonight to hand to Tim on Sunday. I'm really happy I got this finished. It makes me wonder if I'd had this time last week how far along I could've been, or how long in terms of hours worked this *really* took.

My sweetie is off to the Viking event to prep for muchas cooking tomorrow, and I'm downstairs alone. I'll miss having her here and waking up with her tomorrow, but her sister offered to babysit Lake after 1pm, so I can go up to the event and actually enjoy the feast she's put so much time and effort into! I hope it all goes off well. She's worked so so hard on this and really has done a smashing job. I hope people will recognize this and tell her.

I'm still in veggie-mode (no, not a la mode), so I'm stopping now before I ramble on for another hour.
raystrobel47: (Music)
For my beloved [livejournal.com profile] fiannaharpar,

Autumn rays of sun
gleaming off her flaxen hair,
shine upon my heart.

Happy 2nd Anniversary, Jennifer!!

You are a dream come true, you are my best friend, you are my favorite. I am lucky to have you and will always love you.
raystrobel47: (Default)
I am thankful for:

1) A daughter that wakes up cute and in a good mood.
2) The ability to run up and down stairs multiple times to get previously-mentioned new music sutff in my closet and do everything that I need to do.
3) An extra plan period to get all of this done and more.

*BONUS!!*
4) I am thankful for my wife, because she is beautiful and I love her very much.
raystrobel47: (Default)
1. For the music of Ray Charles. That's what I say.

2. For the opportunity to spend time today with my wonderful wife and see a movie (in a theater, mind you) (or, for [livejournal.com profile] fraterrisus, /thee-ay'-tur/ ;-})for the first time in frickin' forever.

3. For Lake's excitement and pride in naming the parts of my face correctly, and knowing the words for some of them. It do my heart good.
