raystrobel47: (Biggio)
I am quite psyched that Craig Biggio got his 3000th hit, in fitting fashion, at Houston, and I find it a tribute to him as a player that he tried to stretch that hit into a double, even though he was thrown out. I've been a Biggio-Bagwell fan for as long as they both suited up together, and with Bagwell retired I just love to watch Biggio continue to play like he did 20 years ago. Hell, the man still looks as boyish now as he did then.

I know the Astros suck right now (Pirates fans, be glad y'all are at least better than us), but having Craig still playing is uplifting. It's not a definite that Bagwell will make it into the Hall of Fame, but few are doubting Biggio won't be a first ballot shoe-in. And the great thing is that this isn't guaranteed to be his last season playing. Man, if I had the dough, I'd get his jersey.

Amazed

So, I was sure that the 'Stros were gonna drop the last of three 'gainst the Phillies, seeing on the pooter screen that they were down with two outs, top of the ninth, nobody on. Then I read in the paper that Biggio hit a game winning 3-run homer against our ol' ace closer Billy. Uh - Mah - Gawd. I hope this keeps up, especially with a game and a half lead in the wild card. And I wanna Biggio jersey now! :-P

I just got back from PNC park, watching the Pirates smack down the Nationals 11-4, courtesy of my brother-in-law Brian. It was totally frickin' cool. There were only three completely scoreless innings, and it was a 5-4 game going into the 7th when da Buccos pulled away, including a 2-run homer, complete with fireworks. Whee!! There was a blown call at the plate when a Pirate was coming in to score, and then McClendan came out to argue with the ump, kicked dirt on the plate and got tossed. Rock!!! Our seats were spectacular, in row W about 10-15 rows to the right of home plate. One foul ball got kinda close to where we were. And since the tickets were comped, I didn't feel too bad taking out a loan on the concessions. Ok, lemme break it down like this: Costs at the ballpark. )

Brian said he'd take me to another game, hopefully when the Astros come into town this time next month. I really want to get a new hat and maybe even a jersey or something with the recent uniforms, as my remaining hat and jersey are of the old midnight blue and gold emblems. Erg.

Great game. It was a great game, and a great, great time.

Just getting online now, and already time for bed. Ah, working with no computer access. Day Camp proves to be part fun, part challenge. Gotta think of another project for "Knights and Castles" for the wee ones. And what to do with a "percussion enseble" that will have no more than 3 kids in it at a time. *sigh* Wouldn't be so bad if Chatham weren't blindly greedy for any money they can get their hands on.

BMDL choir practice went really well tonight. I think our performances for the next two events, which include Pennsic, should be spot on. We're only eight strong, but are singing well with lots of new material.

I get to go to a baseball game tomorrow! My brother-in-law is taking me to see the Pirates face the Nationals. That should be cool, in part cuz I've never seen the Expos/Nationals, and it'll be my first baseball game in... three years, and I really like PNC Park. What I really can't wait for is when the Astros come to town in July. I hope they rebound from their woeful start by then.

I haven't even started reading y'all's entries yet... I reckon I'll need a lot of catch up time this summer.

Dear baseball gods,

Please let Clements do his thang tonight and let there be more-than-adequate run support to allow the Astros into their first World Series against the team that previously employed both the Rocket and Jeff Bagwell. One half of my World Series dream is in place, now let the important half be so.

Amen
