Just saw Up! at the "Dependable Drive-In" in Moon township with my wife and daughter, and were able to convince
blackpaladin and
cassildra to join us. Great movie. Great story, with wonderful storytelling moments. No spoilers here, just recommendations. My sweetie has pronounced that we shall be owning this movie, oh yes we shall. And the drive-in experience was way cool. We were pretty far back, but still had a good enough view of the screen, and we feasted on home-popped popcorn, soda, watermelon, yummy flavored Pringles (Mexican layered dip??!?) and mini-cookies! Oh, and the rain waited until the very end to start drip-drip-dripping. Pookie did fabulously, especially for getting home at almost midnight! 'Twas a good Friday night, and a great movie experience. Now, go out and see it!!
two to go?
I finished the unaccompanied intro to the tuba piece tonight. It was a wonderful "aha" moment on how to connect this cool idea that needed to be transitioned into as well as out of. Musically I compare it to drawing to an inside straight: you can't always write music in between two ideas you want and get the smoothest result. As it is, I was pretty happy to find the solution I did, and now I'll need to sleep on this and play it tomorrow. I've brought the piano into the mix, which certainly complicates things. Wait... >>10 minutes pass<< However, I found YouTube. Teh internetz, let me showz you them! After listening to some Dvorak and other things, I have a start to the piano part! Whee!!! Now it's deciding when to bring in the tuba, how much of the theme to introduce in piano, and working out some chord progressions. For the second section. The third section, as planned, is demon-spawn 'oom-pah'. This could be fun. :-)
I just hope C# minor doesn't annoy the hell out of him...

I just had a lovely evening, alone, with my wife. Thanks to our friend Naomi, Lake is spending the night with her good friend Elizabeth tonight, and we got to go out! We had a nice dinner at Red Hot and Blue, browsed at Borders (wish I'd brought my gift card...) and went to Dave 'N Busters for the first time in years! I got my ass whooped in Space Invaders, of all things, but did play the new Pump It Up game. I'm really glad they still have the classical music selections. We'd've gone to a coffeehouse, but Jenn had homework to do, so I played a bit of Guitar Hero, again, for the first time in months. It was fun.
Tomorrow is Rally Day at our church, and our first choir practice. We'll pick up Pookie after church, and after we (Me, Jenn, and Tim) sing for a special tour happening at our church after the service. Then, to watch football! And retro jerseys!!!

Today Pookie and I went to the Boyce Park Wave Pool with three of
fiannaharpar's sisters and Troy, Pook's 5 month old cousin. She loved it. She was visibly shivering nearly two solid hours but wanted to stay in the water, jumping with the waves, and had a blast doing it. She would go out of the pool for two, maybe three minutes at a stretch before wanting to go back in. I got to have lots of fun with her and spend some good time with her younger aunts. Troy? He slept most of the time. Easy. :-)
Unfortunately, I am now sunburned despite putting on sunscreen. I think having a daughter hanging on to you a bunch rubs the stuff off, or something...
